HM Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire presented The King's Award for Voluntary Service to Kington Walks
The Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE, was delighted to present The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Kington Walks at a special ceremony held at The Burton Hotel, Kington, on 24 April 2026. The award is the highest recognition given to local voluntary groups across the United Kingdom and is regarded as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations.
The presentation celebrated the remarkable contribution made by Kington Walks and its volunteers, whose dedication over many years has helped promote health and wellbeing, maintain and improve public rights of way, organise successful walking festivals, and showcase Kington as a premier walking destination.
During the ceremony, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the award crystal and certificate, signed by His Majesty The King.
Founded and run entirely by volunteers, Kington Walks has developed an extensive programme of activities that benefit people of all ages. Its annual walking festivals attract visitors from across the country, while its Walking for Health initiative provides regular opportunities for people to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing. The organisation's footpath maintenance volunteers also play a vital role in keeping local routes accessible and safe for residents and visitors.
