HM Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Presented Colwall Orchard Group with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service

The Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Mr Edward Harley CBE, presented The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Colwall Orchard Group in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the local community and environment. The presentation took place at Colwall Village Garden and Orchard on 26 June 2026, attended by volunteers, supporters, community representatives and invited guests.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest honour awarded to local voluntary groups in the UK and is regarded as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations. The award recognises exceptional groups whose volunteers have made a significant and lasting impact within their communities.

During the ceremony, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the official certificate and crystal on behalf of His Majesty The King. The event celebrated the dedication of the Colwall Orchard Group’s volunteers, whose work has helped preserve traditional orchards, promote biodiversity, provide educational opportunities for young people, and create a valuable community resource enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

The programme included a presentation ceremony within the community orchard. Following the award presentation, the Lord-Lieutenant toured the orchard and allotments, meeting volunteers and observing many of the activities that take place throughout the year to maintain and enhance the site.

As part of the visit, Mr Harley was invited to plant a fruit tree to mark the occasion and was presented with a batik artwork depicting wildlife associated with the orchard, created by local artist Marie-Therese King.
