His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire
Welcome to the Herefordshire Lieutenancy website.
Edward Harley CBE was appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire by Her late Majesty The Queen in September 2020. The Lord-Lieutenant is His Majesty The King’s personal representative in the County and was appointed by The Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister.
As The King's representative, and within the established systems, the Lord-Lieutenant identifies and recognises individual and institutional effort, and celebrates the various elements of the cultural, historic, artistic and spiritual life of the county’s community in such a way as to encourage a sense of identity and civic pride in the county.
The role of the Lieutenancy is entirely non-political and the Lord-Lieutenant and all his Deputies are unpaid. Following the example of The King, they remain strictly neutral with respect to political matters – both locally and nationally.
