One of the Lord-Lieutenant’s most fulfilling roles is to present medals to individuals on behalf of Her Majesty and to visit businesses and charities around the county. It has been wonderful in this challenging year to have seen so many overcoming the difficult environment to grow their activities and to help each other.

The year marked the death of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. He was a pillar of strength to the monarchy, dedicating his life to supporting Her Majesty The Queen in her duties. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which has offered opportunities to thousands of young people, is just one of his many lasting legacies.

Next year we look forward to the Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, and many towns and villages in Herefordshire are already planning events to celebrate this occasion. The Lieutenancy is particularly involved with the Queen’s Green Canopy, which is a project to plant trees to commemorate the Jubilee. Many trees have already been planted and nearly fifty Herefordshire schools have elected to plant a tree to mark this unique event.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2022

Edward Harley

Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire
