Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, The Dowager Countess of Darnley unveiled a new inscription on the war memorial, St Peter’s Square, Hereford to honour the prisoners of the far east, which was blessed by The Dean.

The unveiling took place on the 75th anniversary of VJ Day following a national two minute silence.

A second wreath was laid by Mrs Kerry Bird on behalf of Children & Families of Far East Prisoners of War (COFEPOW) following a campaign for memorial.

The High Sheriff,  Chairman of the Council, The Right Worshipful Mayor of Hereford, Colonel Andy Taylor, Major General Arthur Denaro, Vice Air Marshal Mike Smart and Rear Admiral Philip Wilcocks were all in attendance.
